About our work

All of our work is composed of two principal parts : free blown hot glass forms, blown by us in our Paris studio, together with cold-worked surface cutting ("battuto", the catch-all word for Italian cold glass cutting techniques done with specially made diamond wheels on lathes.)

The spheres are cut in our cold shop in Paris, as well as on Murano in Venice, in collaboration with master cutter Paolo Ferro and his two sons, Pietro and Riccardo. We have developped our own unique expression of these techniques, using the Swedish overlay method in hot glass forming to apply very thin layers of colored glass.

Concerning the Standing Spheres Sculptures
The integration of the glass with the flexing metal spines and undulating lines they yield, allows for a juxtaposition of forms in a single sculpture which celebrates the play of color, light and texture. The metal spines we bend by hand, and all the fittings are designed in collaboration with Alain Nicolet, a high-tech metal parts fabricator in Switzerland.
